Nestled onto a cliff of incredible peace and beauty, our small, charming Isla Mujeres hotel offers simple and comfortable rooms decorated with local Mexican flare and spectacular views of the sea that is a shade so blue that it seems like it just can’t be real.
Our simplicity is the main attraction. Our guests come back year after year to be surrounded by nothing but peace and quiet so they can enjoy a restful vacation. Our facilities include a refreshing swimming pool, an outdoor grill available for use by our guests, lush gardens and a small private cove where you can swim or kayak in the turquoise blue waters.
For those looking for some of the world’s best snorkling, Garrafón National Park, famous for the large numbers of colorful fish that can be observed is within walking distance from the hotel. Or if you would rather spend an evening enjoying the freshest most succulent seafood you could ever imagine, Playa Lancheros, where you can enjoy delicious seafood dishes caught literally just hours before dinner is also just a short stroll from the hotel. Rooms
Each room has a private terrace where you can lay in a gently rocking hammock and while listening to the murmur of the sea, you can admire the unforgettable sunsets that glow orange, pink and red above the light blue waters while small boats sail by.
For those looking for comfortable Isla Mujeres accommodations, we offer our spacious rooms with one king or two double beds. All rooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans, a mini fridge which is convenient for storing bottled water and snacks, and television. The bathrooms are beautifully decorated with Mexican talavera tiles, six of our rooms have bathtubs so that you can take a relaxing bubble bath after a day of sun. Be sure to read the room descriptions if you prefer a room with a bathtub.
For your comfort and enjoyment, Continental Breakfast is free, as well as unlimited use of wireless internet in all rooms. New at La Joya....there is now a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you never have to leave!
We highly recommend making your reservations early since we have only eleven rooms and a lot of repeat guests. If we don’t have any rooms available, we encourage you to adjust the dates of your visit to Isla Mujeres so that you may be our guest.
Activities
There is a countless variety of activities in Isla Mujeres, especially if you enjoy the water. Sail through the clear quiet waters, snorkel in the coral reef Garrafón National Park, dive in the impressive Cave of the Sleeping Sharks and don’t miss Farito, Islaché and Manchones coral reefs.
In North Beach, you can enjoy a day of sun, sea and relaxation on the white sand. If you’d like to take in some history and culture, the temple to the goddess Ixchel, deity of the ancient Maya can be found at the other end of the island on a cliff known as Punta Sur.
If you are a nature lover, there is a nearby sanctuary which houses more than 90 species of birds during the summer and where whale sharks arrive to feed. Contoy Island can be reached by boats which depart daily from the docks of Isla Mujeres. Or, if you find that you simply can’t get yourself to leave your peaceful hammock on your private terrace during your entire stay on Isla Mujeres, don’t worry, your home will be awaiting you whenever you can make it back.
Location
La Joya is an ocean front hotel in Isla Mujeres, located along the gorgeous coastline of the island, just a short distance from downtown and Garrafón National Park. Perched on a small cliff overlooking the sea, our guests just have to walk down a short flight of stairs to reach a secluded cove of private beach. Isla Mujeres is well kept secret… a small island located a short distance from the shores of world famous Cancun. It's a beautiful and peaceful place that combines the beauty of the Caribbean, the lush jungle and the grandeur of the Mayan civilization. The island can be reached easily by ferry that departs from Puerto Juarez and different points in the Cancun Hotel Zone from 5:30 am until 12:00 am, every 30 minutes.
Besides its beaches, Isla Mujeres has archaeological wonders and some of the world’s most famous snorkling because of its incredible natural reefs, known as the Garrafón National Park, located right next to our hotel.
The center of the city feels more like a preserved Mexican province, with its colorful streets, the restaurants on the sea shore and all the smiling faces of its inhabitants, mostly fishermen. The fact that you have to take a ferry to reach the island may seem like a hassle that you may not want to deal with, but this is what has kept Isla Mujeres from being overrun by tourists like Cancun. Only those who are truly seeking a more authentic and peaceful experience come to stay in Isla Mujeres. Once you arrive the transportation within the island consists mainly of taxis, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles, which can be easily found and rented.
